How To Make Your Story Spread?
This is an ambitious goal. This is the definition of virality. And if there was a secret sauce for virality then it would be sold for gazillion dollars.
To make your story spread there are many steps and also luck plays an important factor. But nothing will work unless you take care of certain elements.
Why Should I Care?
As a viewer, audience, reader – I need to know what’s in it for me. You should explain clearly in the first paragraph – if it’s an article, first 10 minutes if it’s a movie.
Of course, not every piece of art is for everyone. But you have to assume your targeted audience will reach you. Once they interact, they should be instantly hooked to know more.
Is It Entertaining?
You must have came across many clips on YouTube wherein people were praising YouTubers for explaining something their school teachers couldn’t.
If you want to be boring then people will listen to you only by force. If your audience can choose between infinite things, you better be entertaining. And every subject, idea, art can be entertaining.
Are You Dragging?
The length of your story should be enough. Not less or more than required. As a creator, you will be tempted to write more, shoot more. But the real stories are made in edits.
And the goal of an editor isn’t to decide what to keep but rather how much can she edit out without comprising the meaning, quality and entertaining factors.
Is It Worth Sharing?
If your stories are worth sharing meaning it provokes a feeling of either relatability. When you read something, you should feel – that’s what I thought or wow that’s an amazing insight.
And the next thing your reader will do is share. And then it reaches new people. And the snowball gets rolling. It can either stop after some people or keep on going bigger. And if you are lucky, your story will spread.
Ask, Ask and Ask
People forget to share reviews or spread even when they would love to. And such, you can ask them – nudge them. Either in your stories or after if you can contact them.
It’s not selfish. Your stories should benefit the reader and therefore it’s worth sharing. Remind them.
And now if you feel seen or learnt an insight – please do share this story. Thank you – you are the best.
