Why YouTube Is The Future for All Creators?
YouTube is one of the oldest platforms that started monetizing and sharing profits with creators.
When you think about other platforms, they, for a long time, didn’t share any profits with the creator, and even when they started, the amount was abysmal small compared to YouTube.
Hence, you see many people taking their fame to eventually YouTube to bank on their fame.
Yes, leveraging sponsors on your own can be done on any platform. But the platform giving you a share of profit with a decent amount is unique to YouTube. Hence, creators who want to create and let the platform do the heavy lifting finally land on YouTube.
Everyone copying TikTok
Before we dive into why everyone is copying YouTube, we must acknowledge that everyone is copying TikTok.
In the aaa world, where everyone was focused on creating videos in the 16:19 format, TikTok swept everyone with the vertical video format. Quick editing, virality and openness to everyone was the deal.
So everyone else jumped in because TikTok became too big. So, everyone introduced their version of TikTok. Currently, YouTube, Instagram and Reddit have vertical video formats similar to TikTok. Even LinkedIn has TikTok-style videos.
The vertical format is addictive, and people spend much time on the app. So, everyone pivoted to this format to keep users on the platform.
Instagram pivoted from pictures so hard that when you post pictures, it penalizes you.
Video content rules
When you compare all different types of media content, you will see that video is the numbing form of content.
Writing forces you to read, and it isn’t easy to binge-read. Listening to songs is addictive, but you can pause it. But when it’s video — audio, and visual, then you are numbed. Your brain doesn’t have to do the active work of engagement, so it’s easy to binge-watch for the whole night. Yes, you are engaged but also effectively numbed. It isn’t easy to binge-read all night rather than read the book.
So naturally, most content platforms have video elements to it. That way, you can watch and stay on the platform longer.
Thus, they can bombard it with ads or track it to make them billions of dollars of revenue.
YouTube is constantly adding new revenue sources.
When you compare the two biggest video platforms,n it’s Instagramvs.s YouTube or TikTok.
However, regarding revenue opportunities, YouTube is pivoting and adding multiple support options like subscriptions, donations, ad revenue, merchandise, selling courses, etc. Imagine a revenue source, and YouTube is natively doing everything to ensure they benefit from your content. And you get the top dollar for your effort.
You can put in the same amount of effort in Instagram or Facebook videos; the; the reach might be tenfold. But the dollar in your pocket will be comparatively less unless you do some leg work. And still, there is no guarantee.
The format of YouTube ensures more daring spdollarsom the bys on the long form long-form videos since Instagonly has only vertical effectively monetisingvely is difficult.
Shorts on YouTube don’t earn much money. From this, you can gather that if you are on another platform, you will struggle with revenue because there is less money, and platforms will keep most of it to themselves. YouTube generously shares more than 50 per cent of the revenue. If you succeed, you can do everything you can imagine doing on YouTube and earn more than a decent amount of money.
What all things you can do on YouTube
YouTube has the biggest advantage in that it has been one of the first to offer creators substantial ad revenue. As a creator, you can do everything you want on YouTube.
YouTube allows you to live stream, raise fundraising, do a podcast, create your course and sell it, make home made videos, make a TV show, a web series, showcase your music, movie trailers, stand up shows, cooking shows. If you can imagine it, you can make something on YouTube. The benefit of doing it on YouTube is that it has a recommendation engine to potentially viral your videos, which either brings in a lot of money or fans.
Consider this show, for example, ‘Indias Got Latent’ on Samay Raina’s channel. Based on a shoestring budget by a comedian, this show impacts contestants’ lives more than the original show, from which it’s a parody. And this show catapulted him to grow exponentially. His subscribers are rising, and his stand-up shows are selling out. Also, the contestants are getting famous. All this is because of YouTube, which allows you to do such shows and bring in the audience. Imagine pitching this to traditional media and waiting for eternity to get the show to start or mostly them rejecting them.
YouTube is the home of possibilities.
When I was growing up, we wanted to become scientists and astronauts. But right now, it’s about becoming an entrepreneur or a content creator, and then it pops up — becoming a YouTuber.
Whatever you want, you can do it on YouTube, and the chances of you making a high living on YouTube are higher than on other platforms. It’s like having a lottery with many winners. Traditionally, actors must go to Bollywood to make their name and earn money in movies. But if the movies are capped at 1000 per year, there are only so many chances., But with YouTube, you can assemble your team and make the video to put it on YouTube. Maybe no one watches them, but then you created a piece of art you intended, and you can now keep doing your art.
If you succeed, the success rate is higher than that of traditional actors, and you can reap huge rewards.
If you are a creator, YouTube will keep dipping its toes to help you. Sometimes, it will succeed, like the live stream feature on YouTube, and sometimes, they will fail, like the YouTube-produced movies and shows — YouTube red, anyone?
Or they might give you what you want — Shorts on YouTube mean that you don’t have to go to Instagram to make reels. As a creator, you can do all the creative output on a single platform, and YouTube will work hard to make you succeed.
What are some flaws of YouTube?
As with any creator platform, there are flaws on YouTube
Dancers will not make money without choreography videos because every song they use will be copyrighted.
Your channel’s safety is in your hands if you are a small channel. If you get hacked, say bye-bye to your channel.
The rules change often, and it always affects a select number of channels. You might go unlucky here and be doomed.
Big channels have more power to do false content ID on your channel forcefully, and then after three strikes, you will lose your channel. It’s very hard to come back from this.
Many big channels will misuse their copyright system to claim copyright money from your videos falsely. This happens to small people, but if it happens to you, you are doomed and can’t do anything. The reason is that many people use copyrighted content under fair use. But big corporations don’t care about fair use. Either you have to go to court or just let it be. Many small channels let it be. YouTube offers no help here.
But despite all of this, YouTube still has a thriving community
If you have certain subscribers, you can access their studios to level up your videos.
There are learning materials from the official blog and many helpful YouTube creators.
They make YouTube Fanfest happen, like meeting your favourite creators in person.
Content wins ultimately. If you make good videos that people want, eventually, the algorithm will pick you up. You have to find unique, good videos for yourself. It took MrBeast many years to converge to a format that works for this content style.
